Morocco Inter-Governmental Delegation visits our Sichuan Household Biogas PoA

Our Sichuan Household Biogas PoA was selected among dozens of projects to be part of the final programme of a study tour on Ecological & Sustainable Rural Sanitation in China co-organized by GIZ Morocco, the AGIRE Programme and the Centre of Sustainable Environmental Sanitation of the University Science and Technology of Beijing (USTB), with the support of UPM.

A delegation of 26 participants from Kingdom of Morocco, including representatives of all ministries and governmental agencies involved in the planning and implementation of the National Programme on sustainable rural sanitation, led by Internal Affairs Ministry, and personnel of the GIZ representation in Rabat, visited projects in five Chinese provinces in ten days in order to get acquainted with the different sanitation and wastewater management methodologies and technologies adopted in Northern, Western and Southern rural China.

On May 24, the delegation was received in the Tongxing Village in the District of Youxian (Mianyang City) by vice-director of the SREO, Mr. Li Yufeng and Mr. Xiao Longming, vice-director of the Youxian district. The delegation had the opportunity to visit few households equipped with individual digesters and biogas cook-stoves. They could as well witness first-hand the construction of a new digester at one of the households. The participants showed great interest in the convenient installation and operation of the digester; the improvement of the economic, hygienic and sanitary conditions for the households after joining the PoA; and in the training of technical workers involved in construction and maintenance of the digesters.

“The Sichuan Household Biogas PoA, developed by UPM and its Chinese partners, is the perfect example of a successful international initiative which answers local needs for better sanitation and water management systems and for free, clean and convenient energy sources, while contributing to a more global agenda – the reduction of GHG emissions and the mitigation of climate change,” commented Prof. Heinz-Peter Mang, Guest-Professor and Senior Engineer at the CSES-USTB, leader of the organizing team of the study tour and veteran in the field of biogas and sanitation projects in China.
